Rolls-Royce Deepwater AHTS Deck Machinery Contract

havyard844xl_webRolls-Royce has been awarded a GBP 50 million contract by Swire Pacific Offshore to supply advanced anchor handling systems for four offshore vessels of Havyard design, currently under construction at the ST Marine Singapore shipyard in Singapore. The systems are developed for the safer handling of large anchors on deck, such as the torpedo anchors used in the deepwater oil and gas fields off the coast of Brazil.

Rolls-Royce will supply a complete deck machinery system to each of the four vessels.  At the heart of the system is a low-pressure hydraulic winch for anchor handling and towing, with a pulling capacity of 500 t. Arne Tande, Rolls-Royce, senior vice president Offshore Deck Machinery, said: “Rolls-Royce supplies world leading marine technology that enables our customers to operate safely in challenging conditions, such as the deep water oil and gas fields. We are delighted that Swire Pacific Offshore has again selected our safety-critical technology, which demonstrates that our focus on research and development, and advancements in the technical capabilities of our products, continues to position Rolls-Royce as the market leader for specialist handling equipment in the offshore industry.”

Second Series
This is the second series of vessels that Swire Pacific Offshore will build using Havyard design and these Havyard 844 XL AHTSs are sister ships of the four corresponding ships being constructed at Drydocks World-Singapore. The first vessel of this series will be delivered during the first half of 2012. The Havyard 844 XL AHTS is developed by Havyard Design & Engineering in close cooperation with Swire Pacific Offshore. This is also the first AHTS that has been designed according to the new SPS 2008 notation, something which gives greater flexibility in terms of having extra crew on board in order to perform special operations. The vessels will have a continuous bollard pull in excess of 200 t and are equipped with 500 t winches. Built with Clean and Ice Class notations, the DP2 anchor handlers will be ideal vessels to support the latest generation semi-submersible rigs operating in deepwater and harsh environments. With a large clear deck area and under-deck tank capacity they will also be well suited for a wide range of other offshore applications.
